2、在10月31日万圣节前夕这天,美国的大街上到处可见精彩的现场表演、戏台上演的幻觉魔术、逼真的游尸和鬼魂,及各种恐怖电影的放映。到了晚上,便赶紧将蜘蛛丝架起来,再帮负责吓人的演员上妆。鬼屋的内容,则大多与电影主题有关,如:神鬼传奇、星际传奇、鬼故事。

3、在这一天,信徒们跋涉于僻壤乡间,挨村挨户乞讨用面粉及葡萄干制成的“灵魂之饼”。据说捐赠糕饼的人家都相信教会僧人的祈祷,期待由此得到上帝的佑护,让死去的亲人早日进入天堂。这种挨家乞讨的传统传至当今竟演变成了孩子们提着南瓜灯笼挨家讨糖吃的游戏。

万圣节前夕,小孩会提着南瓜灯,穿着各式各样的稀奇古怪服装,挨家挨户地去索要糖果,不停地说:“Trick or treat”(意思是:“给不给,不给就捣蛋。”),要是不肯给糖果的话,就会用各种方法去惩罚你。
